Instruction Modes

Terminology:

  • "Face-to-face" instruction: In Person

  • "Web-based" or "Remote" instruction: Online

  • In person instruction modes have a component of instruction that is synchronous, or delivered at a specific day or time. The coding is determined by the amount of synchronous instruction.

    • In Person (P): Live instruction delivered 100% in person at a specific day/time on a single campus

    • Some Online (SO): A combination of live and pre-recorded instruction mostly delivered in person at a specific day/time on a single campus. Less than 75% of content is pre-recorded or asynchronous.

    • Hybrid (HY): A combination of live and pre-recorded instruction mostly delivered asynchronously. At least 75% of content is pre-recorded. The section will meet in person at least once at a specific day/time. Contact Global Campus to determine if a Hybrid class must be blended with a Global section.

Important! The department should add an SOC Note to describe the classroom experience when Some Online (SO) or Hybrid (HY) instruction modes are used. Instructions for creating an SOC Note.

Videoconference instruction is delivered via teleconferencing technology, such as Zoom, and is regulated by EPPM 14. Ideally, class delivered by videoconference are in person on both the originating and receiving campuses. Exceptions to EPPM 14 require Chair approval. Coding is determined by whether the section is originating instruction and the type of room used. Rooms optimized for VC are preferred. More information coding VC sections

    • VC Originating Campus: Live instruction delivered in a classroom at a specific day/time. Content is delivered to other campuses via Zoom or other VC technology.

    • VC Receiving Campus: Live instruction delivered in a classroom at a specific day/time. Content is received via Zoom or other VC technology.

    Blended with Global: Multiple Campuses

Typically, these sections offer pre-recorded 100% online instruction. Delivery is often asynchronous (no day/time is listed) and sections are combined with a Global Campus section. Available on more than one campus. Any course using the ON (Online) Instruction Mode must be offered through Global Campus and with Global design or blended with a Global section. Contact Global Campus with all questions about blended sections.

    Blended Section Coding

    • Instruction Mode: ON (100% Online)

    • Location: 040 (Global)

    • Class Attribute: NOTE: VIRTUAL

    • Facility: leave blank

    • Day/Time: leave blank

    • Global sets up a "shell" pre-combined section for any class that has previously had approval to be blended. You may approve these sections at will. The "shell" is combined with sections from other campuses and is ready to activate. If there is not a pre-combined online section, start a section on the ONLIN campus and Global will create a shell.

    • Do NOT change an in person or some online section to ONLINE. Use a section that is already coded ON or contact Global Campus to set one up for you. ONLINE sections must have Global design.

    • Do NOT change an ONLINE section to in person or some online. Add a new section and set that section up as in person or some online.
